We offer exceptional trout fishing experiences in the Rotorua area to the more untouched and remote rivers and streams of the Central North Island.
We invite you to experience the best fly fishing Rotorua and this magnificent country have to offer with one of New Zealand's most respected and experienced trout fishing guides.
Rotorua has twice been home to the World Fly Fishing Championships. A true endorsement of our area.
Simon Robertson and his team of guides offer the most experienced group of river fishing professionals in the Rotorua area. All are members of the NZ Professional Fishing Guides' Association, and each has countless years of river fishing experience in the area. We offer 4WD, float or helicopter options or a mix of each to cover the best water for seasonal and weather conditions.
The waters that we fish hold wild Rainbows and Browns and they give an excellent account of themselves. There are no stocked trout and no other fish species in our rivers, so enjoy some exciting sport amidst superb scenery.
Over 30 rivers in our area can be accessed by 4WD and we generally travel an hour out of the city, where you are unlikely to encounter any other anglers. Our day normally gets under way at 8.30am and we will have you home by around 6pm.
Our Tackle and Equipment
We pride ourselves in having the best tackle room in New Zealand and can outfit all sizes from small ladies to XXXOS in Simms Gortex waders, and Simms boots size 5 through to 15. For ladies, we have Simms Ladies cut waders and lightweight boots. Simms wading staffs are also on hand in a range of lengths. We carry exclusively Sage premium rods, SLT, XP, ZXL, Z Axis and Sage One, spooled with Rio and Scientific Anglers lines. We offer a choice of Sage, Scientific Anglers and Hardy’s reels.
Transport and Catering
All our vehicles are 4WD ensuring access to the most difficult and remote water. We always have on hand a first aid kit, sunblock, insect repellent, Polarised glasses, Simms rain jackets and a change of clothes, so you will never be caught out. We carry a full ice box of refreshments including water, soft drinks, beer and wine, and an excellent lodge prepared riverside lunch. We want to make your Rotorua river fishing experience something to remember.
We have excellent relations with helicopter operators in our area and can offer competitive rates for those who wish to explore the very remote areas. A fifteen minute helicopter ride will get you to areas that can take three days to cover on foot through rugged terrain. The most cost effective heli option involves a drive to the edge of the forest where there is a convenient heli port. A more expensive, but time efficient option for those staying with us, and on a tight schedule, is to depart from our Lodge.
